  I am agreeing with Trump on the need to Nationalize issues that affect the entire nation.

  i'm generally not a trump fan but i do agree that things that affect the entire country should be handled in a centralized manner.

  trump is stating that he will dictate when the states can open up again.

  many governors, dems and reps, are fighting that saying that they have the power, not the president.

  States do have some power in these cases, but I’m getting confused, I thought the states (eg. Cuomo) was blaming Trump for not telling the states what to do. Now that he is, they’re saying he can’t do that.

  I don’t think the Federal government should have any such powers, even if for the good today because the intent is good-hearted, it will be misused the minute someone less scrupulous is in office.

  States should and always had the rights and duties to protect their population, the Federal government cannot make a policy that uniformly applies between states, because the US is too large and diverse. Some towns in Texas still haven’t been hit by the virus whereas 50% of the cases are in NYC. Shutting down the country for another 6-12 months until NY gets its act together is insane.

  if a person gets botulism, e.coli or trichonosis, they'll just stop buying that brand!

  Some regulation is necessary, the FDA is there to make sure bad actors get prosecuted, but in the last few decades they’ve come more of a burden than a help. It took them a full month of red tape to even get started on approving emergency medicine for COVID. At that point, you know they’ve gone too far, if you can’t even get a study started for 3-6 months and they won’t let medicine on the market for 6-9 years.

  If people are dying, they should have the right to take a medicine that isn’t fully proven but has shown promise. More people are dying due to the red tape than would ever die from unexpected side effects or allergic reactions.

  The market is the right way to solve this, if you get poisoned, then you should have the right to sue, the FDA allows large drug companies to get away with it because ”hey, the FDA approved it”, even though they know about dangerous side effects and then the FDA takes another 10 years to allow people to sue.

  some light entertainment ... there are apparently 39 beatles songs hidden in the picture, but depending on how to interpret some of them you may come up with more.. please post one each, to give everyone a go, and describe where the song is in the picture (so it's not just coming up with a list of beatles songs).

  I think there is more than 39 songs in there, depending on how you interpret it. A lot of their songs have very generic names. The woman with the baby matches at least 4 songs.

  Online witnessing / witness meeting

  the local congregation has organized witness meetings at zoom with the field service group.. witness are advised to take part of the online witness meeting, dispite if they witness online or not.. this all to keep the routine, they say.. g..

  hey guys, so, i went to the hall today with my parents (they needed a ride) and there was this song that i wasn't familiar with.

  must be a new song or i might be simply ignorant of jw songs (i hate them).

  to my surprise i actually liked this song.

  The Presbyterians have a TON of music that both in words and music sounds a lot like Watchtower, at least the old song books (pink, brown and paperback) I remember.

  At least their books put a little note on the bottom who wrote it originally or what it was adapted from.

  There are plenty of free (public domain) or low cost license Christian hymnals. It wouldn't surprise me if some of their song writers looked for "inspiration" elsewhere.

  So for years we've been donating for "worldwide work" and various relief programs, but when their flock is in need they point at the government. Where is the Witness call for groups of doctors and nurses and other highly educated ones to start volunteering?

  I'm not sure why throughout this "disaster" the organization is not using "disaster relief funds" they've been contributing to for decades to pay for the $15/mo Zoom account and instead having the congregations, who've had their savings stolen from them a few years ago, according to them for the purposes of helping elsewhere, pay these fees.

  this topic is to focus on status updates & advice (no opinion or politics please).. status.

  latest status is that it's serious, probably isn't going to be contained and most large companies are making contingency plans, cancelling large events etc... which i don't think would happen if it was just people being alarmist.

  the incubation period means it may have already spread further and infected many more people than are currently known, so expect jumps in the numbers over the coming days and weeks.. tracking.

  In other news, it seems Pelosi dumped a ton of stock and purchased $5M in Amazon, Microsoft and Slack stock hours after a classified briefing on February 15 on the steps the government was going to take locking down the country. Some other Senators (at least 2 Dems and 1 Republican) seem to likewise be involved in some dodgy stock trading later that month after classified briefings.

  It seems she knew, despite claims to the contrary, that people were going to need more remote work and deliveries and the government was told to prepare for such things, which some of our 'leaders' used to trade on the market to their benefit.

  like the guy or not, i don't know how this guy can talk so much, giving fact after fact and analyze what is going on, not just in new york but across the country.

  he's not reading from notes and there are no teleprompters.

  he gives about an hour to an hour and a half at press conferences every day and fox news carries it.. i mean, as i am listening, he's saying they moved 802 ventilators from this state to that state, 412 came here to new york .... on and on.

  He relies on PowerPoints instead of teleprompters. I can talk too with PowerPoints in front of me. If you look at the broader shots (which some of the media for some reasons doesn't include, but CBSN, the local NY version of the station does), you can see he's simply got PowerPoints that detail all the facts he's reading off.

  Medical Supplies - Please Help Me Understand the Rationale About States Bidding Against Each Other

  i really don't understand why states have to bid against each other for essential items such as medical supplies.

  when you get into bidding wars, the consumers are the ones who lose.. put 50 people in an auction for a product and the one who wins is the manufacturer, not the ones purchasing.. my wife works for a multi-national corporation.

  if she is importing or exporting goods, she doesn't determine what the costs will be; this is already determined through the corporate offices that negotiate worldwide movement of products.

  In reality, a lot of parties are bidding. If you have a limited supply, then the companies selling can put it out in an auction through a procurement company (eg. Jaggaer). The government then puts in its bid for procurement against other governments, eg. China, EU and Federal US governments have more money than eg. Alabama, NY and CA have the most money out of all the states so they could bid against all other states and buy every last mask if they wanted (hint: they're not, they don't need nor want to)

  The states aren't bidding at all. The Federal government is buying up as the sole purchaser and putting a ton of PPE in reserves right now, there is no point for the states to bid if they can just get a handout from the Feds.

  As far as whose fault, everyone is going to keep blaming each other, in fact, Trump mentioned COVID-19 in his state of the union which Pelosi shredded because it was 'all false'.
